How to compress an image

What the compressor changes
Compression re-encodes visible pixels or reduces the PNG palette. Quality mode keeps the original dimensions; target-size mode can reduce dimensions only when auto-resize is enabled and quality alone is not enough. The result panel shows the exact output setting, dimensions and file-size change.
Use WebP for modern websites and transparent graphics. Choose JPEG for photographs that must open in older software. If an upload form also requires exact dimensions, resize the image before applying the final compression target.

Are images uploaded for compression?
No. Compression runs locally in your browser.
Can I compress to a target size?
Yes. Enter a target in kilobytes and AIPics searches for the highest available quality under that limit.
Why can a very small target be missed?
Quality reduction has a limit. A large image may also need smaller pixel dimensions to reach an unusually low file size.
Does compression change image dimensions?
Quality mode preserves width and height. Target-size mode changes dimensions only when auto-resize is enabled and quality alone cannot reach the limit.
