How to compress a JPEG

Choosing JPEG quality
Values around 75–85% are a practical starting point for web photographs. Lower settings create smaller files but can reveal blockiness around text, hair and sharp product edges. The Balanced preset starts at 82%, while High keeps more detail for large displays.
What controls the final file size?
Pixel dimensions usually have a larger effect than quality alone. A 4000-pixel camera photo can remain heavy even at low quality because the output still contains millions of pixels. For a website, resize the image to the largest size it will actually be displayed before applying final compression.
JPEG does not support transparency and every compression pass is lossy. Keep the original source, avoid repeatedly recompressing the same downloaded file, and use the image resizer when an upload form specifies both dimensions and file size.

Will the dimensions change?
Quality mode keeps width and height unchanged. Target-size mode can reduce dimensions when auto-resize is enabled and quality alone cannot meet the limit.
Can I compress several JPEGs?
